"Taming of the Shrew" Iambic Pentameter Monologues
Claire J. and Sage
Annie, Ellie, and Francis
Lucentio:
I will return and when I do my bride
Shall be subdued as yours is true to you
For now I see she works by her, but soon
She will work just for me and me alone
I hear that you deprived her food, so now
I shall deprive her food and water too
She will not sleep when she acts out, but she
Will sleep when she complies to my demands
With that I shall tame her and she will be
A shrew no more like Kate, but with more haste
Robbie, Caleb, and Ben S.
Petruchio:
I know I wronged thee so at past,
But now I have found you to be tamed,
and some way now you love me as I love you,
So watch, my love, and I will show thee my care,
as bountiful as poppies in fields of flowers,
and as soft as the hair upon your head.
I need no more to harm thyself,
I need not to starve you, or keep you
from living your life as I hope you can,
with me, us together with no barrier in sight.
Santiago, Ian, and Jack
Petruchio:
Dear wife, I can’t believe you love me so
That you would change yourself to be so tame
and be a cultured mistress for your lord.
I see your mind has changed as time goes by
your love at first like lashes from a whip
has tempered overtime as wine does age
to something weak, submissive as a lamb
a shrew has
changed into a dog, a pet
that stays beside him, meekly staring up
at he who gives it shelter, home, and life.
Hunter, Ben H., Myric, and Yahya
Baptista:
My life | it is | so lame | so lost | so dead
Daughters | have left | married | to men | so grand
The shrew | been gone | been tamed | a feat | amazed
Now I | begin | to talk | to you | you lout
You sit | and watch | while I | perform | a play
Get your | lazy | self up | and cheer | for me
I worked | so hard | on this | you know | so stop
And think | of all | the work | that I | put in
Now stand | and wave | and clap | and rave. | Applaud!
My part’s | been done | so cheer | me off | this stage…
You fool!
Haden, Nan, Cat J, and Anna
ODE TO PETRUCHIO SONNET #1 BY THE COUCH CREW
Petruchio I shall not marry thee,
You lack respect for girls like me.
You are so old and gross to start,
therefore it won't be hard to part.
I do not want to be your wife,
nor do I want you in my life.
I think that you should go to jail,
or else you should just rot in HAIl.
Do not come back you nasty guy,
or else Ill have to damn your eyes.
Naomi, Lydia, Skyler, and Cara
Baptista’s Monologue
I am alone and dreaming of my girls
They’ve gone away to houses of their own
Oh Kate is married to a mean old jerk
She used to be a shrew but now she’s not
Because he starved her, kept her up all night
Bianca lives in happiness and glee
At least to me that’s how it seems to be
The man was rich and seemed to care for her
But now I wish that I had not been quick
To give my childrens hands away so fast
Elliot, Ava, and Patrick
Kate:
A master you will be no more you fool
A puppet I will be no more you snake
A couple we will be no more you rat
In time I will find someone who is true
You’ll wither every day that I am free
You’re servants will know freedom overdue
The happiness of all of us is here
True love, a lie, that blinded me so long
The blindfold lifted from my eyes at last
I see the path to follow best for me
I leave with one more final thought for you
You’ll never find true love you horrid beast
July, Jasmine, TT, Sean, and Connor
“As I read the books that fell on my head
I think about the man that I should wed
I know that the tutors are the suitors
And as the tutors teach me more and more
It becomes clear which one I should fall for
While Gremio is weird is really old
Lucentio is young, wealthy, and bold
Kate is getting wed to Petruchio
Will her life be happy or full of woe
I know of his father Vincentio”
-Bianca
Aidan, Ben M., Ben. K, and Ephraim
The life we live is not that great
I sit at home and I just wait
For you to come with food so late
My love's not real its full of hate
You look at me and I feel sad
True love is what we do not have
The things you do to me are bad
I do not like you stupid lad
If you leave then ill be glad
You are the one who makes me mad

Katherine’s Future Monologue
To would want to marry Petruchio?
A year of acting as his cheery wife,
This year that freedom has been out of reach
But how to be rid of Petruchio?
I must ensure his last breath on this earth,
I shall slip poison into his next meal?
And I will watch him frothing at the mouth,
Then his cold body shall land on the floor,
I will be free to do what is my will,
The chains of my marriage will be broken.
Grace, Leya, Jordan, and Brooke
Katherine:
Petruchio, you have screwed up badly
In your attempt to tame the supposed shrew
For I am really an assassin and
Soon, sir, I will have my revenge on you
Don’t get the wrong idea; I don’t plan
To kill you, or at least I won’t just yet
But very soon you will wish that I had
When I ensnare you in my vengeful net
Did you not ever learn the Golden Rule?
Treat others how you want to be treated
You broke that rule and so soon you will be
An utter wreck, broken, and defeated
Petruchio:
Now see here, Kate! My actions were all in
The name of love for my wife. You don’t mean--
Katherine: (grabs knife from the table and hurls it at the wall, where it’s buried up to the hilt in the wood)
Hold your tongue, husband. I was not finished.
You did not give me the chance to explain
How I intend to get sweet payback for
My misery, my sadness, and my pain.
Perhaps you recall how you deprived me
Of any form of nourishment or sleep
As part of your plan to tame me, the shrew.
From this torment amusement you did reap.
Now it is my turn, dear husband of mine
Ellen, Amanda, Addie, Stella, and Becca
Sly’s Monologue
A fool I’m not, yet a fool I have been .
I now see it plain that all twas in jest,
This com’cal story hath been a metaphor.
Thou hast mimicked my own folly ways,
And shown keenly the vice of malcontent.
The parody parabolic was not off,
As a child bears semblance to his own.
For Katherina is of mine own blood,
Twas she who nursed and held me as a babe.
Father mine was such the tamer shown here.
The folly disguise which is carried upon me
Is my rightful garb which I have tarnished.
Through the barrel and the dice, I’m squandered.
The noble blood which has runneth through,
I have bled it all, and forsooth I’m lost.
Cam, Megan, Hannah, and Molly
Oh how hath my dear Katherine come to change
Your strong willed mind is with Petruchio
Your quick remarks are with Petruchio
When just last week you weren’t subservient
Oh Kate my lioness where have you gone
What beast could tame a girl of such prowess
I’ve lost my rock in this wicked man’s world
When shrew and maidens are one in the same
